This research was based on a quantitative study that aims to evaluate the quality of services in academic libraries in Sri Lanka.. A self developed questionnaire was used to rate the level of services regarding the six dimensions. The instrument was distributed among randomly selected 200 undergraduates from three universities. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Service Quality Indexes Test were applied to analyse the obtained data. The research revealed that the quality of services provided by the libraries was unsatisfactory. More than half of the respondents have not expressed that the library services were in satisfactory level. Further, analysis indicated that “Check out system of the library materials” “Convenient service hours”, “Internet facilities for library users” and “Availability of information in the online catalogue” were the poor services offered as found by the study.Keywords

Arsenic is a known poison of environmental and industrial origin. Prolonged exposure is associated with vascular diseases, skin lesions and cancer. The predominant form of arsenic in the nature is the pentavalent arsenate (AsV), which enters the body mainly via contaminated drinking water. The arsenic contaminated water samples were collected from different areas of Agra district and the arsenic concentration was estimated. Four groups of five albino rats each were administered 0.02 mg/litre arsenic present in drinking water for 7, 14 and 21 days respectively. After stipulated period the liver tissue was isolated for histopathological studies. The body weight, organ weight and their ratio decreased significantly (p<0.001). However, the SGOT, SGPT, ACP and ALP has shown an increase significantly (p<0.001) as compared to control groups. The histopathology of liver shows necrosis, appearance of vacuoles, nuclear degeneration changes after arsenic toxication. However, the alteration in enzymes and histopathological changes are dose dependent in the present investigation.Keywords

The present paper records nine species of coralline algae from the Prang Formation of middle-late Eocene age from the Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya. The algae are associated with the larger foraminifera including Nummulites, Alveolina and Discocyclina throughout the succession. The temporal distribution of algal species indicates that seven species are known from the Eocene. Of the remaining two, one ranges from the Palaeocene to Eocene and the other is Palaeocene in age. The coralline algae and larger foraminifers are differentiated into two associations, the lower one indicating inner-ramp environment of high energy and the upper one showing deposition in relatively calm waters of deeper ramp environment.Keywords

A field experiment was conducted during rabi seasons of 2005-06 and 2006-07 with two varieties of wheat (PBW 343 and HUW 234), and seven dates of sowing at kalai (Aligarh), research station of C.S. Azad university of Agriculture and technology, Kanpur. Sowing dates were kept different in order to allow the crops to be exposed to different temperature conditions. Planting time influenced the maturity.Higher grain yield of wheat variety PBW 343 was recorded with planting in second week of November. Similarly variety HUW 234 yielded higher when planted in fourth week of November. The results indicated that wheat yield reduced with increase in daily mean post-anthesis temperature.Keywords

In this work, an attempt has been made to study dielectric properties of CaCu3Ti4O12 ceramics. For this, CaCu3Ti4O12 was prepared by a modified solid-state reaction method. The dielectric constant (ε') and dielectric loss (tan δ = ε''/ε') were measured within the frequency range from 102 Hz to 106 Hz and the temperature ranging from 30°C to 300#176;C using HP 4192A LF Impedance Analyzer. The results showed that the dielectric constant and dielectric loss of the sample are frequency dependent and temperature dependent. Dielectric constant and dielectric loss increases with decreasing frequency and increasing temperature due to interfacial polarization. The ceramics were prepared to use as an active dielectric medium in polymer composites.Keywords

Effluent from electroplating industry involved in copper plating and other metal polishing work contain various heavy metal (Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb, Mn and Zn) which have severe adverse effect on health . The present work analyzes heavy metal present in plating shops for a period of one year. Highest copper metal concentration (27.60 mg/L) was observed during post monsoon at site AB-5, least copper metal concentration (0.23 mg/L) was observed for during monsoon at site AB-2. The waste water was monitored for other parameters (BOD, COD, Alkalinity, Acidity, pH and conductivity) which give quality index of the waste water let off from these industries. After monitoring of the waste water, copper diethyldithiocarbamate fungicide was synthesized under lab condition by precipitation and its solution within pH range of 9-9.2 was prepared. Its effectivity for the cure of fungal disease of potato, tomato, okra, brinjal, sunflower and rose has been studied. Early blight of tomato and potato, Buckeye rot of tomato and leaf spot of sunflower has been successfully cured by copper diethyldithiocarbamate synthesized. Our research paper aims to draw attention towards analysis and removal of copper metal from the waste water discharged from five electroplating units in Agra and recycle of the metal in to its diethyldithiocarbamate fungicide and prove the application of copper diethyldithiocarbamate fungicide in control of fungal disease of potato, tomato and sunflower which have great export and market value.Keywords
